Four EPL managers under pressure

Just six games into the season and the vultures are already circling around several EPL managers whose positions are under threat following their sides’ poor starts to the season.

Online football tipsters are insisting Liverpool must win their next three games for boss Brendan Rodgers to continue his role at the helm, while Aston Villa’s Tim Sherwood, Newcastle’s Steve McLaren and Sunderland’s Dick Advocaat are also under severe pressure to reverse their team’s fortunes.

The managers may take some consolation in the fact that it’s just ten days since headlines about Jose Mourinho’s future at Chelsea abounded before dissipating after wins over Macabi Tel Aviv and Arsenal.

Mourinho’s record suggests value in market

Villa managed a mid-week local derby League Cup up win over bitter rivals Birmingham City to alleviate some of the pressure on Sherwood, but former England manager McLaren saw his Newcastle side beaten 0-1 by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in the same competition.

The Magpies owner Mike Ashley is famously patient but after four straight defeats for Newcastle, the Geordies are becoming increasingly restless. They have seen only a single win for their club under McLaren and that was against Northampton Town from League Two. Newcastle are joint bottom of the table on two points, with rivals Sunderland and given their match tomorrow is against champions Chelsea, football tipsters aren’t predicting a significant change in fortunes in the short term.

However, St James Park is the only EPL ground that Mourinho has not managed to win at, so online football bettors looking for an upset and some value in the market may pay some heed to that unlikely record continuing.

Looking dark for Dick’s Black Cats

Dick Advocaat was hailed as Sunderland’s hero last season for securing the team’s EPL status but his side have managed just two points in six games this term. They suffered a 4-1 midweek defeat against Manchester City in the League Cup and tomorrow take on in form Manchester United at Old Trafford. Online football bettors will look at current form and history before making their pick and take note that the Black Cats have only one win in their last 26 visits to Old Trafford.

Rodgers’ replacements

Of the under fire managerial quartet, Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers is perhaps under most pressure given the millions he’s spent and the availability of both Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp as possible replacements in the Anfield hot seat.

Liverpool are without a win in their last four games while Villa sit just one point above the relegation zone, having not managed a win since the opening day of the season.

A hamstring injury means Christian Benteke is likely to miss out the match against the team who sold him to Liverpool for £32.5 million but online football tipsters point to Danny Ings’ impressive displays and suggest he could be the silver lining for Rodgers. Ings enthusiasm matched his prowess against Norwich when he replaced the big Belgian at halftime last week and was rewarded for his efforts with his first goal for Liverpool in the 1-1 draw against the Canaries.

Aston Villa last lost at Anfield in December 2010 and they beat Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last April and have scored two more goals than the Reds this season.
