Sergio Agüero Hits Five against Sorry Newcastle
It may not have been quite as spectacular as Robert Lewandowski’s recent entrance for Bayern Munich against Wolfsburg, but Manchester City’s Argentinean striker Sergio Agüero put on a masterclass in front of a packed Etihad Stadium on Saturday, scoring five times in 20 minutes to destroy their visitors from the North East, Newcastle United. Already the current holder of the Premier League’s Golden Boot award for best striker, Agüero now has 115 goals in 175 appearances for the Citizens and if you like to bet on sport, who would bet against the 27-year-old finishing top of the table once again.
Ibrahimović Becomes Record Breaker at PSG
Two goals in the space of three minutes, both from the penalty spot sent Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimović into the history books as PSG’s all-time top goalscorer with 110; beating the previous record of 109 set by Portuguese hitman Pauleta. The achievement was made all the sweeter as it came against the capital club’s bitter rivals Marseille at the Parcdes Princes on Sunday evening. Ibrahimović has reached the record in just 137 games since his move from Milan in 2012; the previous holder took five years and 211 matches to reach his milestone.
The Rogers Era at Anfield Comes to an End
Saturday’s 1-1 draw at city rivals Everton signalled the end of the Brendan Rogers era at Liverpool as he was relieved of his duties after just over three years at the helm. With his future under mountingspeculation since the summer, when former Borussia Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp made it quite clear that he would love to coach in the English Premier League, the club’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group headed by John W. Henry and Tom Werner finally wielded the axe on the Irishman with rumours already abound that Klopp will be in place before the end of the week.
Mourinho Leaves Reporter Stunned With Seven Minute Tirade
Rarely is Chelsea coach JoséMourinho out of the public spotlight and after his team had succumbed to yet another home defeat( this time by Southampton) on Saturday, the “Special One” used his post-match interview with Sky Sports to deliver an astonishing seven minute outburst blaming everyone and everything for his team’s current bad run of form. The international break has obviously come at just the right time for the 52-year-old as he attempts to get to the bottom of why his side has made such a disastrous start to the defence of their Premier League crown. As if things couldn’t get much worse for Mourinho, the club today issued a statement giving him the dreaded vote of confidence.
Carpi Achieve Historic First Win in Italian Top-Flight
The fairy-tale story that is FC Carpi continued on Saturday evening as the Serie A new boys recorded an historic first ever victory in the Italian top-flight thanks to a 2-1 home win against Torino. Having recently dispensed of the services of the man who took them to three successive promotions from the fourth tier of Italian football to Serie A FabrizioCastori, new coach Giuseppe Sannino looked almost embarrassed to take the acclaim after pulling off this masterstroke in his opening match in charge. Whilst Saturday’s result will not make them any less likely to be relegation favourites on the best online betting sites, it’s wonderful to see that a little romance still exists in the beautiful game.
