The Weekends Racing – by The Sportsman Racing

it may pay to keep faith with Roger Varian’s Mijhaar. The four-year old colt clipped heels when last witnessed on a racetrack in the John Smith’s Cup. Mijhaar was travelling strongly when this piece of misfortune occurred and it ruined any hopes he harboured of reaching the winner’s enclosure. Prior to that race the horse had run well at Ascot and York and any unsettled weather won’t affect him. Of the other contenders Little Rocky is respected being such a consistent campaigner while Prussian should also run well. The third selection for Saturday runs at Beverley in the shape of the leggy Dinkum Diamond in the Class 1 Bullet Sprint Stakes over the minimum trip. Backed into favouritism for the same race last year he ran a bold race when beaten only half a length by subsequent Prix De L’Abbaye winner Tangerine Trees. Having not won for the best part of a year, Dinkum Diamond ended the dry run in some style when breaking the track record in a conditions race at Nottingham two weeks ago. The concern would be the ground going too soft as he done all his winning on firmer going. Granted his favoured conditions I expect Dinkum Diamond to be running on at the end of the race.
