The big game at White Hart Lane kicks off at 12.45pm (GMT+1) and league leaders City will be looking to get back on track following last week’s surprise defeat at home against West Ham.
Spurs beat Palace 1-0 last weekend and are ninth in the table on goal difference having picked up nine points from their opening six games but the top football tipsters look at more than just the table when assessing a match.
City’s 8-in-9 against Spurs
Online football bettors will note that City have won eight of their last nine EPL matches against Spurs and average 3.4 goals against the Londoners in their last eight league games, having scored 27.
But can City keep up such a rate given Spurs have the second best defensive record in the EPL this season so far, having conceded just four goals.
City themselves are the meanest in the league having let in just two so it looks like it could be a tight affair at the Lane.
Spurs have lost only one of their last eight EPL games, but boss Mauricio Pochettino has only beaten City’s manager Manuel Pelligrini once in 12 league matches – a 1-0 win over Malaga in 2010 when he managed Espanyol in La Liga.
Can Kane get off the mark?
Can Harry Kane get his first for Spurs this season? The England striker has scored only two in his last 14 EPL games having hit 17 in his previous 15 EPL outings for Spurs. The number nine was unlucky not to get off the mark against Arsenal and Kane’s form may be the reason Spurs have scored only five league goals in six matches – while City are averaging two a game with a dozen strikes in their opening six games.
City’s current run of five away wins in a row is their best since 1912 and they will be looking to make history with another victory on the road against Spurs tomorrow.
Last week’s 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham – their first reverse this season – ended City’s best ever run of 11 successive wins while Victor Moses’ opener in that match was the first league goal conceded in 572 minutes of play.
Aguero’s astonishing average
Captain fantastic Vincent Kompany is expected to return and City will be further boosted with Sami Nasri’s availability.
However, they will be without a string of first teamers including David Silva, Gael Clichy, Eliaquim Mangala and Fabian Delph while Spurs welcome back defenders Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld who were rested in the midweek League Cup defeat against Arsenal.
The defensive duo will be tested against City’s Argentinean hit-man Sergio Aguero whose record of ten goals in seven games against Spurs averages out as one goal every 55 minutes against the Lilywhites.
